Eating out in Plzeň is cheap by Western European standards and the beer, unsurprisingly, is excellent everywhere. Most restaurants serve Czech staples — roast duck with dumplings and cabbage, schnitzel, and svíčková (marinated beef with cream sauce). The brewery restaurant at Pilsner Urquell has been renovated and serves good food in a pleasant setting. In the old town, Restaurace Žumbera serves hearty Czech dishes, and Plzeňka Bašta near the main square pairs traditional food with a good selection of local beers. Palačinky (Czech pancakes filled with jam, fruit, and ice cream) are a local dessert staple worth trying.
