Techmania Science Center

Techmania Science Center occupies a former Škoda factory hall in the Borská pole industrial zone southwest of the city centre and is one of the best science museums in the Czech Republic. The building — a large 20th-century industrial shed — has been converted into an open exhibition space filled with over 300 interactive exhibits on physics, biology, technology, and mathematics.

The exhibits run from simple demonstrations of optical illusions and air pressure to more sophisticated interactive installations on electricity, momentum, and the history of Czech industrial technology. There is a permanent section on the Škoda Works, which for much of the 20th century was one of the largest engineering companies in Europe. The museum also houses a full-dome 3D planetarium. Techmania is a 20-minute tram ride from Republic Square (tram 2 toward Slovany) — not in the old town, but worth the trip for anyone with children or an interest in science and technology. Café on site.
