Torvehallerne is a covered market on Israels Plads, just south of Nørrebro, open since 2011. Two glass-and-steel halls house around 60 stalls selling fresh produce, cheese, charcuterie, fish, coffee, bread, wine, and prepared food. It is one of the best food markets in Scandinavia — genuinely good quality, with producers who know their products.
The best time to visit is a weekday morning, when it is less crowded. Highlights include the coffee from Coffee Collective (one of the best in Denmark), the smørrebrød stalls for a quick lunch, the fresh pasta from Mielcke & Hurtigkarl, and the excellent cheese selection. Budget at least an hour to walk through both halls and have a coffee. On weekends it fills up quickly.
