Shopping

Copenhagen is a city of design, and the shopping reflects it. The pedestrian street Stroget is the main artery, running from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv, with department stores like Illum and Magasin alongside smaller Danish boutiques. Side streets like Kronprinsensgade and Pilestrade are where the more interesting independent shops hide.

For Danish design classics, look for Royal Copenhagen porcelain, Georg Jensen silver, and Bang and Olufsen audio equipment. The inner city is full of small craft shops where quality is high and prices are lower than in the flagship stores. Fisketorvet Shopping Centre near the harbour handles the generic chain shopping if that is what you need.
