Copenhagen is the capital of Scandinavian design and the shopping reflects it. The best Danish design buys are Royal Copenhagen porcelain (the flagship store is on Amagertorv), Georg Jensen silver jewellery (also on Amagertorv), and the furniture and homeware stores along the side streets off Strøget. Hay House on Pilestræde is the best single stop for contemporary Danish design — everything from notebooks to sofas.
For less expensive design objects, the various museum shops are worth visiting: the Designmuseum's shop is well-stocked, and the Nationalmuseet shop has good reproductions and books. The area around Kronprinsensgade and Kompagnistræde, just south of Strøget, has the better independent clothing boutiques — Danish fashion labels like Samsøe & Samsøe and Wood Wood have stores here.
