Fredericia has a decent if unflashy restaurant scene clustered along Danmarksgade and Gothersgade in the old town. The local specialities are nothing exotic — pickled herring, smørrebrød, pork tenderloin — but the produce is fresh and the standards are high.
Restaurant Smag is the most ambitious place in town, serving a modern Danish set menu with a focus on Jutland seafood and game. Café Vandtaarnet in the old water tower has a popular brunch menu and good views. For a more casual lunch, Det Lille Apotek on the main square does classic open sandwiches and beer. The Saturday market on Axeltorv is the place to pick up smoked sausage, cheese and fresh-baked rye bread for a picnic on the ramparts.
