Hillerod has a small but solid restaurant scene, concentrated on and around the central market square and along Slotsgade running down towards the castle. Smorrebrod (open-face sandwiches at lunchtime), classic Danish brown-sauce cooking in the evenings, and a handful of more ambitious modern places make it a good spot to spend an afternoon. Prices are noticeably lower than in central Copenhagen.
