Hillerød's main draw is Frederiksborg Castle, but the surrounding lake district and the town's own streets reward a full day's exploration. The castle complex alone can easily occupy a morning, between the royal apartments, the chapel, and the formal gardens; the rest of the afternoon is well spent on the lakeside or in the old town centre.
