Hillerod sits at a useful junction in north Zealand. Helsingor, with Hamlet's Kronborg Castle, is about 25 minutes by train to the east. Fredensborg, with the royal family's working palace, is even closer — under fifteen minutes by car. Copenhagen is 45 minutes south by S-train and easy to combine with Hillerod in either direction. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art at Humlebaek, one of the great museums of northern Europe, is half an hour by train.
