The Park of Frederiksborg Castle stretches north and west of the castle on a hillside that gives the best long views of the building. The baroque terrace garden directly north of the castle was laid out in 1720 by Johan Cornelius Krieger, swept away in the 19th century, and meticulously restored in 1996 to its early-eighteenth-century geometry — clipped yew pyramids, parterres in box hedge, fountains, and the royal monograms cut into the lawn.
Beyond the formal garden is a much larger English-style park with old beech trees and gravel walks, free to enter and beautiful in autumn. Allow an hour for the terraces alone and a second hour for the wider park if you have it.
