A late sixteenth-century merchant's house preserved as a small museum, Quedens Gaard sits in the maze of half-timbered streets just south of Torvet. The interior — courtyard, kitchen, panelled reception rooms, attic — gives a vivid sense of how Ribe's better-off citizens lived in the centuries when the town was Denmark's most important western port.
The exhibits are not extensive but the building itself is the point: original beams, original tiled stoves, original window glass. There is a small café in the courtyard. Combine with a wander down Sønderportsgade to the river.
