Skibbroen

The old port quay of Skibbroen, on the river Ribe just south of the centre, is where coastal traders used to tie up to unload goods directly into the warehouses lining the riverfront. The river is much smaller than it once was — the harbour silted up in the seventeenth century — but the quay still has a small fleet of restored wooden traders, including the Johanne Dan, a 1937 schooner that doubles as a museum.

It's the most scenic five minutes' walk in Ribe: along the quay, past the old skipper's houses, with the cathedral tower rising above. Several restaurants along the quay have outdoor terraces in summer.
