Ribe Kunstmuseum

The Ribe Art Museum, in a striking 1864 yellow-brick villa just east of the river, holds one of the best regional collections of nineteenth-century Danish painting in Jutland. The strength is the Danish Golden Age: Eckersberg, Marstrand, Lundbye, Købke and the so-called Skagen Painters (Krøyer, Anna and Michael Ancher).

The collection extends through Symbolism and into the early twentieth century. The gardens behind the museum, set against the riverbank with views back towards the cathedral, are themselves a draw. The villa has its own modest café. Closed Mondays.
