Roskilde's two headline attractions — the Viking Ship Museum and the Cathedral — are among the best of their kind in northern Europe, and neither disappoints. Beyond them, the town has a well-preserved medieval streetscape, a good local history museum, and the biggest music festival in Scandinavia on its doorstep every summer. It rewards a full day rather than a rushed half-day from Copenhagen.
