Hanko's edge is essentially all beach — more than 30 kilometres of sand and granite shoreline wrapping a narrow peninsula. The two prime stretches sit on either side of town. Bellevue Beach (Plagen) runs east of the Eastern Harbour with fine sand, shallow water, and the long boardwalk that gives the spa town its still-recognisable late-Imperial atmosphere. Tulliniemi runs along the southern coast — quieter, with stretches of granite outcrop and patches of windblown pine. Smaller coves and dune beaches dot the rest of the peninsula; renting a bike and stopping wherever the shore looks empty is a perfectly viable plan.
