Hanko's restaurant scene swells in summer and contracts hard the rest of the year. The Eastern Harbour and the streets behind it concentrate the best of it — fish-focused menus, Baltic-style smoked fish, a handful of more ambitious modern Finnish kitchens for the long Helsinki weekend crowd. Reservations are essential in July and August; many places shut entirely from late September to May.
