Hanko town centre is tiny — fifteen minutes on foot covers most of it — but the peninsula stretches more than ten kilometres north before petering out into archipelago. Bikes are the right move for nearly everyone: rentals are widely available in summer at the harbour and the tourist office, and a network of marked cycle paths links the eastern and western beaches with the inland railway-trail route to Lappohja.
A car is useful for reaching the Front Museum and the northern peninsula. Local buses run a short circuit through the town and out to Tvärminne; the rail line gives a useful second route in. Boats — water taxis and tour vessels — leave the Eastern Harbour throughout the day in summer for the offshore islands.
