Things to Do

Hanko is a long thin peninsula with a small town at the southern tip, and most of what's worth doing is either on the water or along its edge. The Eastern Harbour and the row of wooden villas behind it are the visual highlight; the beaches stretch for kilometres on either side; offshore islands hold bird reserves and the historic Russarö lighthouse. Inland, the WWII-era Front Museum at the old peninsula border is the obvious historical stop. Walking, cycling, swimming, and on calm days a boat tour — Hanko rewards slow, repetitive days more than ambitious itineraries.
