Bellevue Beach (Plagen)

Bellevue is the spa-era beach and still the most-photographed in Hanko: a half-kilometre arc of fine sand, shallow Baltic water, and a row of brightly painted nineteenth-century changing huts (the last surviving such row in Finland). It runs from the eastern end of the harbour promenade out to the Tulliniemi headland.

The Mathilda-Mary cafe at the western end is the social anchor in summer. The water is bracing even in July (rarely above 20°C) but swimmable by Nordic standards; locals jog the boardwalk year-round. Lifeguarded in season. The painted huts are private and rentable as changing rooms — book through the city if you want to claim one for the day.
