Uddskatan is the southwestern tip of the Hanko peninsula and one of Finland's premier spring and autumn bird-migration sites — a low headland of windswept pine, juniper, and granite shoreline that funnels passerines and raptors as they cross the Gulf of Finland. The Hanko Bird Observatory, founded in 1979, has its main ringing station here.
The reserve has a marked nature trail (about 3.5 km, 90 minutes at a slow walk) with several observation points and information panels in Finnish, Swedish, and English. Best between mid-March and early June, then again from August through October. Bring binoculars, wind protection, and waterproof footwear; the terrain is rocky and exposed.
