The flagship café of Fazer, the chocolate company that has more or less the same place in Finnish life that Cadbury once had in Britain. The Kluuvikatu shop has been open since 1891 in an opulent Art Nouveau room of mirrors, gold leaf, and panelled glass. The chocolate counter at the back is excellent; the cake counter on the way in is the best in Helsinki.
Order a slice of Lapin Kulta cake or a piece of the Mignon (chocolate hatched out of a hollow eggshell) and watch the world cycle past on Kluuvikatu. Busy at weekends; quieter on weekday mornings.
