Helsinki's sights are compact and walkable, mostly clustered around the harbour, Senate Square, and the neoclassical streets between them. The Suomenlinna sea fortress offshore is the single unmissable destination; after that, work outwards through Engel's neoclassical centre, the design district around Punavuori, and the Alvar Aalto and Steven Holl buildings of the 20th century.
