A Helsinki institution since 1934, in the Ullanlinna district just south of the centre. Sea Horse is famous for its fried Baltic herring with mashed potatoes — the dish that locals queue up for once a week — and for the unchanged interior of dark wood, white tablecloths, and the original 1930s lamps and chairs.
The rest of the menu runs through the classic Finnish repertoire: liver, schnitzel, fish soup, cabbage rolls. Reasonably priced for the quality. Book ahead on Friday and Saturday evenings.
