Posio

Lapland lake town known for Pentik ceramics, snowy fell forests, and Korouoma canyon hikes.

Posio sits in the southeast corner of Finnish Lapland, where the landscape is more lake country and wooded fell than open Arctic tundra. It is a small place, but it has a clear identity: Pentik ceramics, clear-water summer lakes, and two of Lapland's better nature days within reach.

The strongest reason to come is outdoors. Korouoma Nature Reserve is a deep canyon with cliffs, short day trails, and frozen waterfalls in winter. Riisitunturi National Park is gentler but no less memorable, especially when snow turns the spruce trees into heavy white shapes on the fell slopes.

Posio also has a softer, handmade side. Pentik-maki Culture Centre grew from Anu Pentik's ceramics company and gives the town a design stop that feels very different from the usual Lapland souvenir shop. In summer, Lake Livojarvi adds sandy beaches and clear water; in winter, the rhythm shifts to skiing, snowshoeing, and photographing the forests.
