Luosto is a small fell resort in Finnish Lapland, about 70 kilometres south of Kemijärvi and right against Pyhä-Luosto National Park. It is a quiet place, more forest and snow than village, with a handful of hotels and cabins gathered below the slopes of Luostotunturi.
The headline attraction is Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, where visitors can dig a small amethyst from ancient bedrock and keep it. Around it are the open fell views and marked routes of Pyhä-Luosto National Park, including the Ukko-Luosto summit trail.
In winter, Luosto Ski Resort is modest but appealing: short queues, reliable snow, reindeer in the forest, and cross-country tracks running between Luosto and Pyhä. It is not a big resort town, and that is the appeal. Come if you want Lapland on a human scale rather than a packed activity hub.
