Saariselka is a small fell village in Finnish Lapland, well above the Arctic Circle. It is the main gateway to the Urho Kekkonen National Park, one of Finland's largest wilderness areas — a vast expanse of fells, forests, and rivers stretching all the way to the Russian border.
In winter, Saariselka offers cross-country skiing on the Saariselkä Ski Resort trails, husky safaris, snowmobile tours, and a strong chance to see the Northern Lights. In summer, the fells around Kaunispää and Kiilopää are excellent for hiking under the midnight sun. The village itself is purpose-built for tourism — small and functional rather than charming, but the surrounding landscape more than compensates.
