Nagu

Swedish-speaking Finnish archipelago village on the island road between Turku and the outer Baltic.

Nagu, Nauvo in Finnish, is one of the most rewarding stops on the Archipelago Road west of Turku. It is not a single island so much as a small maritime world: two main islands, thousands of skerries, Swedish-speaking villages, guest harbours, ferries, and summer cottages scattered across the Baltic.

The village of Kyrkbacken is the easy base. The medieval Nagu Church, the small Maritime House, and the harbour sit within a short walk of each other, while the Westerholm Trail gets you into the woods and old shorelines without needing a car.

Nagu is best in summer, when ferries, yachts, cafes, and guest harbours give the islands their full rhythm. It also works as a cycling stop on the Archipelago Trail: arrive by ferry, stay long enough to feel the sea air and the bilingual village life, then continue toward Korpo or back toward Turku.
