Lac Besson

A small alpine lake above the resort at 2,061 metres, reached by a 45-minute walk from the top of the Lac Blanc lift in summer or by a longer hike from the village. The water is cold enough to make the brief swims that count as a French summer ritual feel like a real achievement.

A network of paths links Lac Besson with the smaller Lac Noir and Lac Faucille, making for a pleasant two-hour loop in clear weather. Picnic on the bank, watch the marmots, and enjoy the silence — this side of the mountain is left almost entirely alone by the lift-served crowds.
