Megavalanche

The Megavalanche is one of mountain biking's great festival events: a mass-start enduro race from the snow at 3,330 metres down to the valley floor, held every July since 1995. Around a thousand riders set off in waves, and the spectacle from the resort village is unmissable — riders flying past on snowy ridges, dust trails in the lower forest, and the bar at the finish line in full carnival mode.

If you are not riding, watch the qualifiers earlier in the week, or take the cable car up and walk a short way along the course. Tickets to enter are released months in advance and sell out almost immediately; spectating is free.

A story
The race starts on snow at the Pic Blanc summit, descends through scree, ski piste, forest singletrack, and rocky alpine valley, finishing 27 kilometres later in the village of Allemont — a vertical drop of 2,600 metres in around an hour for the leaders.
