Alpe d'Huez is fundamentally a ski station, so most of what to do is on or above the snow in winter and the mountain bike trails and hiking paths in summer. The road up — those 21 hairpin bends — is itself the main attraction for anyone arriving by car or bike. The resort village sits at 1,860 metres and the cable cars rise from there to the 3,330-metre Pic Blanc.
