A story
Grenoble was a particularly active centre of Resistance during the occupation. The surrounding mountains provided both cover for maquis fighters and escape routes to Switzerland. In November 1943, the Gestapo arrested and deported Jean Moulin — de Gaulle's personal envoy and the coordinator of the unified French Resistance — who had been operating in the region. The museum puts this local history into its national context.
