Grenoble's 13th-century cathedral blends Romanesque and Gothic elements. The interior is notable for its carved stone ciborium (a rare freestanding canopy over the altar) dating from the 15th century. Adjoining the cathedral, the Musée de l'Ancien Évêché occupies the former bishop's palace and traces the history of the Isère from prehistory onward.
