The covered market in the town centre is the best single stop for understanding the food culture of the Landes. Stalls sell fresh foie gras, rillettes, and confits from local farms; others stock the region's distinctive chickens and ducks raised in the open pine forest. There are cheese merchants, a good fishmonger, fruit and vegetables from the surrounding countryside, and several stalls selling armagnac and Floc de Gascogne (the local aperitif).
Saturday morning is the main market day, when the surrounding streets extend the market outdoors. Get there early — by eleven o'clock the best producers have sold out. There is also a smaller market on Wednesday mornings.
