Eating Out

The Landes has one of the most distinctive food cultures in France. Foie gras is produced here on an industrial scale, but it appears on tables in the region with an ease and quality that visitors from elsewhere rarely encounter — not as a luxury item but as an ordinary pleasure. Magret de canard, the breast of the same ducks raised for foie gras, is grilled over vine cuttings and served pink. Armagnac, the brandy of the Gascon countryside, rounds off any serious meal. Mont-de-Marsan is a good place to eat well without paying Bordeaux prices.
