The most important museum in Corsica and one of the better art museums in France outside Paris. Cardinal Joseph Fesch — Napoleon's maternal uncle — amassed an extraordinary collection of Italian paintings during the imperial years, and this palace on the Rue du Cardinal Fesch holds the result: 16,000 works, of which around 800 are on permanent display. The Italian Primitives (Botticelli, Bellini, Filippino Lippi) are the core; there is also a strong collection of 17th-century Venetian and Neapolitan painting. The upstairs rooms have works by Titian and Veronese. Budget at least two hours.
