Marché du Libération

The Marché du Libération runs every morning (except Mondays) in Place du Général de Gaulle in the Libération quarter, north of the city centre. It is Nice's most local market — primarily fresh produce, fish, and cheese, aimed at residents rather than tourists, with prices to match. The quality of the fruits and vegetables, supplied mostly from the Var and the hills behind Nice, is excellent.

The market is best combined with a visit to the renovated Gare du Sud food hall immediately adjacent. Together they make the Libération quarter the best place in Nice to eat well cheaply at lunch: load up at the market stalls and eat on the square, or grab a plate from one of the Gare du Sud vendors and sit inside the beautiful old station building.
