Abbaye de Senanque is a 12th-century Cistercian abbey in a narrow valley below Gordes. Its plain Romanesque church, cloister and dormitory show the order's austere style at its best.
The abbey is still a working monastic site, so visits are more structured than at a ruin. The classic view is from the road above, especially when the lavender fields are in bloom in early summer.
