Apt Market

Apt's Saturday market is one of the finest in Provence — a sprawling affair that takes over most of the town centre with fruit, vegetables, cheese, charcuterie, honey, lavender products, and clothing. It's a working market used by local people rather than purely a tourist attraction, which gives it a vitality that the more picturesque village markets sometimes lack.

The covered market hall (halles) in the centre of town operates throughout the week, with particularly good cheese and charcuterie. The surrounding streets have several excellent boulangeries and a shop selling the town's famous candied fruits directly from the producer.

A story
Apt is the capital of the Luberon and the centre of the French candied-fruit industry — the town has been making crystallised fruits since the 17th century, and the best producers here supply pâtisseries across France. The Saturday market is the largest in the Luberon region, drawing vendors and shoppers from across the Vaucluse. Arrive before 9am if you want to park without difficulty.
