Luberon Wine

The Luberon AOC produces wines across the full spectrum — rosé, white, and red — and the quality has risen steadily since the appellation was granted full AOC status in 1988. The rosés are the most famous, drunk young and cold on the terrace with exactly the food you'd expect from this landscape: charcuterie, tapenade, ratatouille.

Several domaines around Lourmarin and Bonnieux offer tastings and direct sales. La Citadelle at Ménerbes and Château Val-Joanis near Pertuis are among the most visitor-friendly. The wine route (Route des Vins) follows the southern edge of the Luberon and makes for an excellent afternoon drive, with stops at cellars where the welcome is genuine and the prices are significantly lower than buying back home.
