Luberon Hiking

The Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon maintains an excellent network of marked trails across both the Petit Luberon and the Grand Luberon ridges. The long-distance GR trail crosses the park from west to east, linking the major villages along the ridge. Day-hikes of varying difficulty connect the valley floor with the hilltop villages, and the terrain — limestone, scrub, and cedar forest — is rugged but beautiful.

The Grand Luberon is higher and wilder than the Petit Luberon, with summits above 1,100 metres. The route from Apt south through the Combe de Lourmarin and up to the summit of Mourre Nègre (1,125m) takes most of a day and offers views across Provence to the Mediterranean on a clear day. Spring walking — late April through June — is the best season: the wildflowers are extraordinary and the heat is manageable.
