The Markthalle sits just inside the Martinstor and is the easiest place to eat well and quickly in central Freiburg. Around twenty small stalls share a central seating area and serve food from across the world — Thai curries, Argentinian steaks, Greek mezze, German wurst, sushi, falafel — all at moderate prices.
Lunchtimes are busy with students and office workers. The atmosphere is loud and informal, the queues move fast, and you order at each stall and pay there. Open from late morning to late evening, closed on Sundays. It is one of the best lunch options in the centre, especially if your party can't agree on a cuisine.
