The Martinique is a survivor: a 1970s discotheque on the eastern edge of Freudenstadt with a hydraulic dance floor that genuinely rises and falls during the night. Mirrored ceilings, the original Tropical-bar fittings, and a clientele that ranges from teenagers to nostalgic locals in their sixties make it the strangest place to be at midnight in the Northern Black Forest.
It is open Friday and Saturday nights and a magnet for stag parties from across the region. The music is mostly chart and 90s; this is not a serious club. Go for the spectacle and the simple fact that a place like this still exists in a town of 23,000.
