Freudenstadt is well connected by rail for a mountain town. Direct trains run from Stuttgart (about 1 hour 45 minutes) and from Offenburg on the Rhine (about 1 hour), with the Offenburg line winding up through the Black Forest on the Kinzigtalbahn — a scenic route in itself. From Baden-Baden there is a connection via Rastatt. The nearest airport with direct international connections is Stuttgart; Frankfurt is also feasible.
By road, Freudenstadt sits at the junction of the B28 (east–west) and the B294/B462 (north–south). The Schwarzwald Hochstrasse (B500) connects north to Baden-Baden. From Stuttgart, the drive is about 90 minutes via the A81 and B28.
