The town centre is compact and entirely walkable — the Marktplatz to the Parkwald trailhead is about fifteen minutes on foot. Local buses serve the surrounding villages and connect to points along the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse, but a car opens up the Black Forest considerably. Freudenstadt is a good cycling base in summer; the terrain is hilly but the forests are well mapped with bike trails. Bike hire is available in town.
