Sankenbach Waterfalls

Forty-metre two-stage waterfall in a wooded ravine near Baiersbronn

The Sankenbach Waterfalls are a pair of cascades — the larger one drops about 40 metres over two stages — set in a steep, mossy ravine above the village of Baiersbronn. The water comes off the Stöckerkopf ridge and joins the Murg in the valley below. It is one of the finer waterfalls in the Northern Black Forest and far less visited than the more famous Triberg cascade further south.

The standard walk starts from the Sankenbachsee car park near Baiersbronn-Schönmünzach, loops around the small lake, and climbs through the ravine to a wooden viewing platform set into the cliff opposite the upper fall. The full circuit is about six kilometres with a few hundred metres of climb. From Freudenstadt the trailhead is fifteen minutes by car along the B462.
