The Old Botanical Garden, just north of the old town, was the university's botanical garden from the early 19th century until 1969, when the collections moved to a new site on the Morgenstelle hill. The garden is now a small public park with mature trees, a pond, a small Mediterranean garden, and several glasshouses that occasionally open to the public.
It is a quiet, leafy escape from the busy old town, and a useful shortcut between the centre and the northern districts.
