Neckarinsel and Platanenallee

Wooded river island with the famous plane tree avenue

The Neckarinsel is the long, wooded island in the middle of the Neckar, planted in the 18th century with the avenue of plane trees known as the Platanenallee — one of Germany's most photographed riverside walks. From the path, the Stift, Hölderlinturm and Stiftskirche all stack up on the opposite bank in the postcard view of Tübingen.

The island has benches all along it and is the place most students bring a beer on a summer evening. Two small bridges connect it to the south and north banks of the river.
