University Leucorea is the historic Wittenberg university founded in 1502, the institution closely tied to the city's Reformation-era intellectual life. It closed as a university in 1817, but the surviving buildings remain part of the old town's academic and historic landscape.
Today the complex is used as a conference and research center. It is worth a short stop while walking between Lutherhaus, Melanchthonhaus, and the old town churches.
