Haus Rüschhaus is a small but elegant country house west of Münster, designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun and later associated with the writer Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. It has the clipped order of Westphalian Baroque architecture without the exhaustion of a full palace visit.
The literary connection gives the house its extra pull. Droste-Hülshoff lived and worked here for part of her life, so the visit ties Münster's surrounding countryside to one of Germany's important 19th-century poets.
