Bars and Cafes

The Kaßberg is where most of the bar life happens, with a concentration of neighbourhood Kneipen and small cafés along Weststraße and the surrounding streets. The area around Karl-Marx-Platz and the Stadthallenpark picks up in summer when outdoor seating fills the squares. Chemnitz has a modest but genuine student and creative scene — the city's art school and cultural institutions keep things ticking. Don't expect Berlin; do expect cheap beer, no attitude, and the occasional unexpectedly good coffee bar in a converted shop front.
